Two film screenings on 25th April 2009 Print E-mail
Tuesday, 14 April 2009

On 25th April 2009, Small TownFilm Club will present the screening of a short film by  a long-time Friend at Rachna.

"Maachis Ko Sinka (Matchstick)", a 10:34 minute long film by Radhamohini Prasad, is a story of a day in a life of a Kalimpong schoolboy working in a billiards hall where he encounters different voices of the Gorkhaland movement.

Synopsis: The project began with a search for the Nepali-Indian identity and evolved into trying to understand the Gorkhaland Movement in Darjeeling and to represent it for mainland Indians who are complacently ignorant about the region and its politics and economics. The film-maker realizes the multicultural mosaic of "Gorkhaland" and tries to decipher as to why all the different communities in this geographical space have identified themselves with the Gorkhas and want a separate state for themselves. The film attempts to
deconstruct the Gorkhaland movement using arguments for and against violence as the means to a political solution.

Also to be screened the same day is another film by Rebana John, "Echoes".

Synopsis: Echoes is an experimental film, an attempt to investigate the notion of life; As it has always been, as it is today. It is a subtle social comment whispered through sound and visual. The film travels from the timeless into the crevices of modern busy life and resorts to the poetic image to facilitate a kind of movement of thought in the viewer. In this kind of story-telling, rhythm and pace are key conveyors of narrative; Tonality and composition are stimulants for the eye to create meaning; and the subjects and sequences are the architects for structure. An existential apathy forms the soul of the film.

The screenings will take place at The First Floor at Rachna Books.

Limited seating. Book your place by  email: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it     or phone:  +91 3592 204336
